Postpartum Hospital Stay
After delivery many mothers and their children are required to stay in the hospital for at least 24 hours but it is recommend you stay for 48 hours but this is just for a vaginal delivery. For a C-section they recommend you to stay in the hospital for 72 hours. In these few days you will be very busy not only caring for your new loved one but also with things such as paperwork. From the time you have your baby to the time you leave the hospital everything you and your baby need is provided for you. As for paper work, you will need to fill out the birth certificate for the baby and also fill out an application for the baby's social security card. You also have the option to put your baby's birth in the newspaper. Nurse's will provided you with the choice if you would like pictures taken or not. If you have a boy another option you will have is to get him circumcised. Once you and your baby are healthy you are able to leave but you must be discharged from your doctor. Once your baby is eating and using the bathroom on their own and are fully developed and healthy they are able to be discharged from the doctor. And once you are able to use the bathroom and eat and drink food normally also if you had a C-section they want to make sure you are healing correctly you will be discharged as well. After you are discharged from the doctor you and your baby are able to leave when you feel ready.
