What to expect during the third trimester? You can expect backaches, shortness of breath, heart burn, spider viens, breast growth, frequent urination, Braxton Hicks contrations, which are warm up contractions, wieght gain, vaginal discharge, and alot of swelling.
During the third trimester you will start to rapidly gain weight and prepare for delivery. At 28 weeks your baby's eyelids are partcially open and the eye lashes have formed. He/she should be about 10 inches long and 2 1/4 pounds. At 29 weeks your babies bones are fully developed and starts to store iron, calcium and phosphorus. But thier bones are still soft and pliable. At 30 weeks the babies eyes are wide open and starts to grow hair on it's head. Your baby should be around 10 1/2 inches long and about 3 pounds. At 31 weeks the babies sexual development continues to form. If your having a boy his tesicles are moving through the groin on the way to the scrotum. If your having a girl her clitoris is now relatively prominent. At 32 weeks the baby starts to practice breathing. His/her lungs aren't fully formed but it starts to practice breathing. Thier body begins to absorb vital minerals, iron, and calcium. The lanugo, layer of soft hair, that has covered your baby's skin is starting to fall off. He/she also starts to kick and should be almost 11 inches and 3 3/4 pounds. At week 33 your baby's pupils can constrict, dilate, and detect light entering the whom. At week 34 your baby's fingernails start to grow and he/she should reach to be about a foot long and 4 1/2 pounds. At week 35 the baby's body is now round and a pasty white coating, called the vernix caseosa, that protects the baby's skin starts to thicken. At week 36 your baby starts to rapidly gain wieght, a 1/2 a week in the next month. You start to feel alot of stretches, rolls, and wiggles. You want to start checking the babies movements, especially if they start to decrease in activity. At week 37 your baby's organs are ready to function. It may move in a downward postition to prepare for birth. At week 38 your baby's toe nails have formed, brain and nervous system are working better every day, and starts to develop a firm grasp. He/she should reach about 13 1/2 inches long and 6 1/2 pounds. At week 39 the placenta provides antibodies. The chest is becoming more prominent. The boys testes continue to descend into the scrotum. The girls labia majora is developed enough fat under the skin tp maintain body temperature with the help from the mother also. The placenta continues to supply antibodies that will fight infections in the first 6 months after birth, breast-feeding from the mother helps this process. And at 40 weeks your due date starts to arrive and your baby may be more than 14 inches long and 7 1/2 pounds depending on your baby. It's normal to be over due. You can have your baby a week or two earlier or later. Check with your doctor if you need to induce labor, you don't want to wait to long or your baby will be to big and you'll have to have surgery.
Your doctor visits starts to become more frequent, almost once a week, at the beginning of the third trimester. You still do your normal routine, checking blood pressure, weight, etc. You just start checking your baby's position and if you have any cervical changes. You also need to test to see if you have group B strep. If you test positive you need to be given a intravenous antibiotics during your labor to protect your baby from the bacterium. And if you have any questions keep asking your doctor!
It is okay to have your baby earlier or even later than your due date. It's healthy for your baby to be overdue almost two weeks. Reasons for an overdue pregnancy is: you don't know the excat date of your last menstrual period, it's your first pregnancy, you've had prior overdue pregnancies, it runs in the family, and also boys are known to cause an overdue pregnancy. There are some problems for an overdue pregnancy, the baby is more likely to inhale fetal waste while in the whom because it gets to big for the waste to properly go where it needs to be. Most doctors after a couple days will induce the labor. This process is when your doctor sticks a plastic hook inside of you and breaks the sac that holds the water for your baby. Then they give you medicine to make your cervix soften and open up. If you have an overdue pregnancy you should do the best to try and enjoy it! Some ways you ask? Well you can learn to accept your emotions. We know your probably tired of the pregnancy, but do the best to enjoy the time you have without a crying baby in your hands. And take advantage of the extra time. Make the finishing touches on everything that you haven't gotten to, and get as much sleep as you can. You can still go out to dinner, movie, or take walks. Theres no reason to miss that just because you have an overdue pregnancy. You could also update your friends and family on everything that's going on in the pregnancy, or at work, or anything that's going on. But stay in touch with your care provider.
