Safe Sleeping for Your Baby

The safest place for your baby to sleep is in the room where you sleep. Put the baby's bed or bassinet next to your bed. It makes it easier to breastfeed and bond with your baby. The crib should be free of toys, pillows, blankets, and soft bedding. You should always place babies on their backs during nap time or anytime they sleep. It could be uncomfortable for a baby to sleep on their back if they have not been burped well after their last feeding.

SIDS is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Ways you can prevent this is:
- Always put your baby on their back, not their stomach.
- Always place your baby in a safety-approved crib.
- Make sure your babys head and face stay uncovered while he or she sleeps.
- Always make sure that the crib has no loose or missing slats.
- Babies placed on adult beds risk suffication from several hazzards such as:
- Entrapment between bed and wall.
- Entrapment involving the bed frame, headboard, and footboard.
- Falling off of bed.
- Suffication in soft bedding.
- An adult could roll over onto the infant.
